Bertha Gxowa was an important figure in South Africa's move to freedom and equality for all South Africans, and the fight against apartheid.
Ruth was first active in the Woman's day march in August 1956 in Pretoria her early 20's. In 1994, she started to serve parliament as an ANC member, and was a member of the Home Affairs and Health Parliamentary Portfolio Committees in Parliament until 2004.
