Traditionally bronze sculptures are sold as small editions. The size of the edition is decided by the artist before the original has the mould made. The sculpture has the edition number with the number of the casting written on top etched into the bronze for example 3/15. Once all the numbers are sold then the mould is destroyed and thus limiting the edition, increasing the value of the sculpture. The artist may also create an ‘artist proof’ which will have A/P instead of the number – the artist may keep for this for themselves or sell to a willing buyer.
