Robert Mangaliso Sobukwe (5 December 1924 – 27 February 1978) was a founding member and 1st president of the PAC (Pan Africanist Congress). He was also a teacher, lecturer, lawyer, Fort Hare University SRC President, secretary of the ANC branch in Standerton, and Robben Island prisoner.
This sculpture has been created as part of a new educational centre built in Graaff-Reinet, his place of birth.
