The Secretary Bird is very shy. No sooner have you seen it, it has flown away. It is a raptor, unusual, with long legs and a tail spending most of its time on the ground searching for food. It will eat what it finds – snakes, small mammals and other small reptiles. I always get a thrill when I see one stalking the Midlands hills.
